Draft programme - "From Margin to Mainstream: Disability in Business" conference, 27-28 November 2024
 
The first draft agenda for the ILO Global Business and Disability Network (GBDN)'s (hybrid) 11th global annual conference "From Margin to Mainstream: Disability in Business", 27 - 28 November 2024, Geneva, is now available on the event page
The conference will also see the launch of two ILO GBDN knowledge products, i.e. one on disability-inclusive Environmental, Social, and governance (ESG) and one on disability-inclusive supply chains.

Driving disability inclusion in companies at country level: 2023 survey among National Business and Disability Networks worldwide
 
To better understand the work, success stories, challenges and support needs of National Business and Disability Networks (NBDNs) - with a focus on the year 2023 - a bilingual (English and Spanish) survey by the ILO Global Business and Disability Network (GBDN) was sent to the coordinating entities of the 40 NBDNs that were members of the ILO GBDN at the end of December 2023. This analysis is based on the responses by 32 NBDNs that were received until mid-March 2024.

The ILO Global Business and Disability Network’s side event “Businesses driving a sustainable future: disability-inclusive employment and ESG” at the 17th Conference of States Parties (COSP17) to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) – co-sponsored by the United Nations Global Compact and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) – highlighted latest good corporate practices as they relate to the employment of persons with disabilities in companies’ sustainability efforts, including as part of wider Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategies.

ILO GBDN webinar on disability inclusive procurement
 
The ILO GBDN webinar “Procurement Power: What about Disability?” focused on six high impact innovations, as procurement professionals are encouraged to: demonstrate that suppliers which share their commitment to disability equality and inclusion gain competitive advantage, require key suppliers to meet explicit disability & accessibility KPIs, ensure the level of accessibility and usability, of technology and the built environment, bring disability-owned businesses into local and global supply chains, join the G3ict (Global Initiative for Inclusive ICTs)’s Procurement Impact Alliance, helping suppliers in emerging markets improve their disability performance by using the free ILO GBDN Self-Assessment and mitigate the risks triggered by the procurement of AI-powered HR technologies.

Capgemini at VivaTech: driving inclusion with technology and expanding the boundaries of disability
 
Capgemini attended VivaTech in Paris, discussing how technology can enhance inclusivity within society. Helene Chinal, Transformation Director for Southern and Central Europe at Capgemini and Executive sponsor for Disability in France, hosted a conference at the Capgemini booth. The focus was on showcasing how tech and AI can expand opportunities for people with disabilities, featuring two innovative projects.

Google scoops top global prize for accessibility at Business Disability Forum’s Disability Smart Awards
 
Google's Accessibility Discovery Centre (ADC) wins this year's Business Disability Forum's Disability Smart Awards. Based in Google’s Kings Cross offices, this is a dedicated centre built to drive research and innovation in accessible technology.
 
CII-IBDN: introducing Disability Inclusion (DI) Assessment for the Indian Industry
 
CII-India Business and Disability Network recently launched a Disability Inclusion Assessment for Industry members to assess and evaluate the existing gaps and suggests actionable recommendations to become disability-confident organisations and to foster an inclusive environment within the Indian Industry.

The Butterfly Inclusive Employment Ecosystem: celebrating two years of inclusive progress
 
On 25 June, Aldar Square in Abu Dhabi came alive with The Butterfly's celebration of the 2nd anniversary of the Inclusive Employment Ecosystem (IEE). This event marked two years of dedicated efforts to improve inclusion practices for the employment of persons of determination (UAE term for persons with disabilities).

Updates from Sightsavers Country Office Pakistan
 
Sightsavers in partnership with Standard Chartered began their Ready for Inclusive Sustainable Employment/Entrepreneurship (RISE/E) project which aims to empower young persons with disabilities in Pakistan by supporting their entry and retention in the labour market, through business employment or self-employment. Furthermore, six participants of the Pakistan Futuremakers Project participated in the Access Ability Careers event which connected persons with disabilities with companies in varying sectors.

The Nigeria Diversity and Inclusion Conference 2024
 
The Nigeria Business and Disability Network (NBDN) held the second Nigeria Diversity and Inclusion Conference on 29 May at the Access Bank Head Office in Lagos with the theme of disability inclusion in corporate sustainability. The conference brought together member organisations, from the private and public sector, and civil society, as well as other organisations working on disability inclusion.
